Graham Lancaster AM Scholarship
Terms and Conditions
1. Establishment and Purpose
The Graham Lancaster AM Scholarship ("Scholarship") is established by Healthier Illawarra Men (HIM) to recognise and honour the contribution of Graham Lancaster AM to the Illawarra community.
The Scholarship aims to support emerging leaders who demonstrate commitment to improving men’s health, wellbeing, and the prevention of domestic, family and/or sexual violence.
The Scholarship is intended to encourage leadership, community engagement, and professional development among individuals connected to organisations aligned with the objectives of Healthier Illawarra Men.
2. Scholarship Value
The Scholarship provides:
• A grant of AUD $5,000 to support professional development; and
• Mentoring support consisting of approximately five to eight mentoring sessions with Graham Lancaster AM and/or a nominated mentor approved by Healthier Illawarra Men.
Scholarship funds must be used for activities aligned with the purpose of the Scholarship including conferences, training, professional development programs, research initiatives, or community programs related to men’s health and wellbeing.
3. Eligibility
Applicants must:
• Be under 30 years of age at the application closing date.
• Demonstrate a connection to Healthier Illawarra Men or a partner organisation aligned with the HIM charter and/or with the values of both Graham Lancaster and Healthier Illawarra Men.
• Demonstrate leadership, service, and commitment to improving men’s health, wellbeing, or preventing domestic and family violence.
• Demonstrate active community contribution, volunteering, or leadership in relevant initiatives.
Employees, board members, or immediate family members or members of the Selection Committee may be deemed ineligible to ensure integrity of the process.
4. Application Process
Applications must be submitted through the official HIM application process before the published closing date.
Applications must include:
• Applicant contact information.
• Evidence of eligibility.
• A written statement addressing the scholarship criteria.
• Supporting materials as requested.
Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.
5. Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a Selection Subcommittee appointed by Healthier Illawarra Men.
The Selection Subcommittee may:
• Assess written applications; and
• Conduct interviews either in person or via digital platforms.
Selection will consider leadership, impact, commitment to men’s health, and alignment with the values represented by Graham Lancaster AM.
The decision of the Selection Subcommittee is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
6. Governance and Integrity Protections
Healthier Illawarra Men will implement governance measures to ensure fairness, transparency, and integrity including:
• A documented scoring matrix used consistently across all applications.
• Declaration and management of conflicts of interest by Selection Committee members.
• Recusal of any committee member where a perceived or actual conflict exists.
• Clear documentation of the decision-making process.
• Independent oversight by HIM leadership where required.
HIM reserves the right to decline to award the Scholarship in any year where suitable candidates are not identified.
7. Recipient Obligations
The Scholarship recipient agrees to:
• Use the scholarship funds for the approved purpose.
• Participate in mentoring sessions arranged through the program.
• Provide a written or verbal report to HIM outlining outcomes of the scholarship.
• Participate in reasonable promotional or community engagement activities.
8. Public Recognition
The recipient may be publicly recognised through HIM publications, website announcements, media releases, and community events.
9. Reapplication
Unsuccessful applicants may reapply in subsequent years provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
10. Amendments
Healthier Illawarra Men reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or alter the Scholarship structure if required for governance or operational reasons.
11. Privacy
Personal information provided by applicants will be handled in accordance with applicable Australian privacy legislation and will only be used for administering the Scholarship.
